Case Studies

Under the DIPECHO program, special emphasis is being given to incorporate the most marginalized and the vulnerable throughout different phases of the program. Here are some of the case studies which depicts how the women have involved themselves with the program proactively and how they are acting as the change agent.

A Series of Case Studies: Where There is a Will! There is a Way!

Key words: ActionAid’s effort on DRR, Case Studies on DRR

ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) has been striving to create conditions in Bangladesh where the poor segment of the population can live a life free from poverty and injustice. Contributing to this vision, the organization joined hands with DIPECHO―a disaster preparedness programme financed by European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection department—in the year 2004. Since then the fellowship has seen no stopping.

Where there is a Will! There is a Way!! is a brief snapshot of the changes that the DIPECHO team has struggled to materialize in the Disaster Risk Reduction scenario of Bangladesh. The case studies depict the success of the DIPECHO programme which came at the cost of stressful days and sleepless nights of AAB staffs. In addition, the case studies attempt to documents the process towards preparing communities and institutions for imminent natural disasters, hence increasing their resilience.

Oxfam GB under the DIPECHO V action plan has been implementing the project “Building Community Resilience to Floods in Central Region of Bangladesh” supported by ECHO since July 2010. Project team time-to-time capture the case studies, which reflect the changes in people’s life as a result of DIPECHO project.

These case studies portray the different interventions by IRW in different area under the DIPECHO action plan, showing how community participation is being ensured to resolve the issues regarding community based disaster risk reduction.
